Welcome to the K-9 Hospice!
Now in partnership with the Humane Society of the Greater River Valley

The K-9 Hospice is a not-for-profit home for dogs needing either temporary care and shelter or a permanent place to live out their days with plenty of love, sunshine, health care, and places to dig. Here, love is given, spirits mended, and wounds healed. Now working in partnership with the Humane Society of the Greater River Valley (not associated with the HSUS), we are a no-kill rescue site where dogs are getting one more chance at life.
Look around our small site, and please consider how you might help - by donating or volunteering, by sponsoring a dog, by fostering or adoption, even just by spreading the word about this home. Thank you for visiting - come back again soon to see our updates or new photos!
Happy 2010!
It's all about hope - such a small word, but one with tremendous impact when joined with imagination and action!
At the K-9 Hospice and HSGRV, 2009 was a huge year, filled with trials and challenges, joys and tears. The dogs of the K-9 Hospice and Furry Friends in Need were relocated to Rock Springs Loop, and the HSGRV was formed. Huge strides were made in making improvements at the new place (though much work remains!). New friends were made. And perhaps best of all, many dogs found loving forever homes. There was also sadness, as we dealt with illness, disease, and even death. Many days it felt overwhelming. But hope, the support and compassion of people like you, and our love of these dogs, kept us going.
We're thankful for what has been learned and gained from 2009, and are filled with hope for 2010! We've started the new year with a dog rescued, his broken leg set, and a safe return to his family. And though we also started the year with frozen pipes and a broken underground water main, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead in this new year.
Our biggest dream and hope for 2010 is simple - to be able to care for the dogs that find their way to us, and to find loving forever homes for as many as we can.
For our dogs, hope is also simple - they hope for a home place. A person they can love and watch over, and who will watch over them. Someone to scratch behind their ears or to give a belly rub. A bowl of food and water each day. Perhaps a bone to chew or toy to play with. Someone to throw a stick or take for a walk or just sit with on a cold evening. This hope shines from their eyes, everytime they look at you.
We can't achieve such dreams or fulfill such hopes without you, though. It is only through your donations, support, and time, that we can bring these dreams to reality in 2010.
Here's how you can help!
- Provide a forever home. Give us a call at 479-284-2222 (Jan) or 479-495-0603 (Judy), or email us at k9hospicecorp@yahoo.com to talk with us about the kind of dog you are interested in, and the kind of household you currently have. We'll help match you up with a pet that will become a much loved member of your home!
- Donate. With 130 dogs, we are in constant need of donations - cash, supplies, dog food, building materials, and vet support. You can make a financial donation right here by clicking the Donate button below. We also welcome donations of quality dog food and dog supplies, even direct donations to our vets to help meet current and future medical needs. And we need people to donate their time, even if it's just an hour or two a month. So much needs to be done. Contact us if you can help.
- Consider being a Foster Parent to a dog needing some extra care and love! Maybe you can't adopt right now, but you could provide a temporary home. We have many great dogs that would love some one-on-one time with you, to help make them more adoptable through training, special health care, or just socialization. If you can care for a special needs dog on a short-term basis (several weeks to several months), let us know!
-Volunteer! We are constantly in need of people willing to give a couple hours a week, or a month, to help care for our dogs, maintain records, or help with adoption days or site improvements (of which there are many needed!). This is a great way for you to meet many of our dogs and get to know their delightful personalities! An added bonus for you - it can also be a great workout!
Hope . . . imagination . . . action! When combined with love, all things are possible!
Thank you for your support, and may 2010 be a kind and joy-filled year in which your dreams come true!

Looking to adopt? We have many wonderful dogs just waiting for a forever home! See some of the dogs right here by visiting our photo album, or go to www.petfinder.com/shelters/AR216.html to see featured K-9 Hospice dogs. If you are unsure whether you are ready to adopt or not, email us at k9hospicecorp@yahoo.com - we can help you decide whether now is a good time.
If you are considering adoption, check out our adoption page. Adopting a rescue dog is a wonderful thing to do, and a blessing to our animals - but please keep in mind that it also takes a great deal of love and patience, especially at first, to help the dog adjust to a new home. When adopting, please plan to give the dog approximately 3 weeks to settle in, develop a bond with you, and to let his or her personality really start to shine!
